Application of guanidine hydrochloride in multifunctional antibacterial paper

  Guanidine hydrochloride is a strong denaturant in the extraction of RNA experiments. It is an important intermediate for pharmaceuticals, pesticides, dyes and other organic compounds. It is an important raw material for the production of sulfonamides and folic acid. It can also be used as an antistatic agent for synthetic fibers. In addition, guanidine hydrochloride plays a role that many people may not know, that is, the production of antibacterial paper.
  Paper products is indispensable for people in production and life. The fibers in the paper can adsorb many microorganisms. When the temperature is appropriate, it will propagate rapidly and cause harm to the human body. In order to prevent the spread of a variety of infectious diseases caused by harmful bacteria in the course of the use, research and development of multi-functional and efficient antibacterial performance of paper is of great significance. Chitosan is a natural antimicrobial material extracted from the shell of marine crustaceans, which has the advantages of good safety, but the heat resistance is poor, the effective time is not long, the application range is narrow. Guanidine hydrochloride is strong alkaline with high stability and good biological activity, and has good antibacterial properties. Researchers [1] used the ion cross-linking method to prepare a multi-functional antibacterial nano agent with chitosan and guanidine hydrochloride, then use in the manufacture of antibacterial paper.
  The chitosan powder was dissolved in a certain amount of 1% acetic acid solution. 50mL of guanidine hydrochloride solution (8g·L-1) was mixed with 40mL of sodium tripolyphosphate solution (2g·L-1) and then slowly added chitosan solution, then stirred at room temperature for 4h to prepare chitosan-guanidine nanoparticle emulsion. 250mL slurry in the concentration of 0.5% was used to make the anti-bacterial paper, different amounts of chitosan-guanidine hydrochloride microspheres were added respectively, shaking at room temperature for 10min, Sheet forming machine was used for the manufacture of the paper.
  In order to study the antibacterial properties of the new antibacterial paper, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were selected as antibacterial objects and tested by the inhibition zone method. With the increase in the amount of antimicrobial agents, antibacterial agents presented in the bamboo pulp also increased, so antibacterial effect increased. When adding 1% chitosan-guanidine hydrochloride microspheres, antibacterial zone began to appear around the antibacterial paper. With the increase of the amount of antimicrobial agent, the inhibition zone around the antibacterial paper began to increase, and when the amount of antibacterial agent was 3%, the inhibition zone reached the maximum.
  As the antibacterial paper has two kinds of antibacterial agents chitosan and guanidine hydrochloride at the same time, it has a strong inhibitory effect on E. coli. and Staphylococcus aureus. Antimicrobial agents and antibacterial paper with multi-functional antibacterial effect have important application value and wide application prospect. Compared with the antibacterial paper of single component, the antibacterial property is increased, and a new method is provided for the industrial production of antimicrobial paper.
