Problems in the development of enzyme preparation industry in China

The industrial preparation of enzyme is called an enzyme preparation, which is a biological product with catalytic function after purification and processing of enzyme, and is mainly used for catalyzing various chemical reactions in the production process, and has high catalytic efficiency, high specificity and mild action conditions, which reduces energy consumption and reduced chemical pollution. It is widely used in food, textile, feed, lotion, paper, leather, medicine, energy development, environmental protection, etc.

Development of the enzyme preparation industry

China's earliest enzyme preparation industry originated in the middle of the last century, and its products are mainly used in textile desizing BF7658α-amylase. At the end of the 1990s, high-temperature alpha-amylase and high-conversion liquid saccharification enzymes began to be widely used in alcohol, monosodium glutamate, sugar, beer and other industries. At that time, the main enzyme preparations in China were mainly amylase and glucoamylase, and the total amount of the two accounts for more than 80% of the total export. Now China's enzyme preparation products have been updated, mainly including the following 9 categories: glucoamylase, amylase, cellulase, protease, phytase, hemicellulase, pectinase, feed complex enzyme, beer complex enzyme, etc. Among them, the production of glucoamylase, amylase and phytase exceeded 10,000 tons; the proportion of cellulase, hemicellulase and pectinase was small, but the growth was faster.

Problems in the enzyme preparation industry

After decades of development, China's enzyme preparation industry has grown from scratch and has initially formed a certain scale. In the development process, due to the late start of China's enzyme preparation industry, it has been under greater pressure from foreign companies in the same industry. In recent years, the development of China's enzyme preparation industry has been rapid and has made significant progress. However, from the perspective of the world enzyme preparation industry, the application of high-tech in the world enzyme preparation industry has further widened the gap between China's enzyme preparation industry and the world's advanced level. The production scale of the whole industry is small, the technical research and development strength is weak, the products are relatively single, and the structure is unreasonable.

1) Insufficient R&D investment and R&D innovation capabilities. The average amount of funds used by Chinese enzyme preparation companies to develop new products and improve production processes is less than 4.5% of the sales, and personnel investment is also seriously insufficient. The main reason is that domestic enzyme preparation enterprises are relatively small in scale, and the total amount of research and development investment funds of enterprises in the whole industry is less than 100 million yuan. However, since the enzyme preparation industry is a technology-intensive industry, it requires a large amount of capital investment. The serious shortage of R&D investment has led to a weak technical reserve for China's enzyme preparation enterprises, and the development faces enormous challenges.

2) The production process and equipment level are relatively backward. The production technology level of China's enzyme preparation industry is somewhat backward compared with foreign countries. Most of the domestic enzyme preparations use more traditional fermentation, separation and extraction technology and preparation technology, resulting in serious waste of resources, low product purity, low product quality and other issues. In the production process of foreign enzyme preparations, technologies such as genetic engineering, protein engineering, artificial synthesis, simulation and directed evolutionary transformation are widely used. Among them, the high-tech achievements mainly based on genetic engineering and protein engineering have been industrialized in the field of enzyme preparation production, bringing revolutionary development to the enzyme preparation industry. Domestic research in this field is still relatively weak, and the application technology of independent and innovative enzyme preparations is backward, which has become the main limiting factor for the further expansion of domestic enzyme preparation market.

3) The structure of the enzyme preparation product is unreasonable and the application depth is not sufficient. Chinese enzyme preparations are still dominated by traditional enzyme preparations (glucoamylase, amylase, protease, etc.), lacking high-end enzyme preparation products, and the structure is unreasonable. At the same time, due to the existence of single species and vicious competition, the economic benefits of the Chinese enzyme preparation industry are poor, and the development stamina is insufficient. At present, foreign enzyme preparation companies are vigorously developing liquid dosage forms and granular products, and attach importance to the development of immobilized enzymes. Due to the relatively backward level of extraction technology, process and equipment, the domestic enzyme preparations are mainly based on crude enzymes, the quality is uneven, and the application is limited. The mainstream of international enzyme preparations is a complex enzyme with high added value. The development of complex enzymes is based on a comprehensive technology of production and application of enzyme preparations. Domestic enzyme preparation companies lack application workshops and professional researchers in the production of enzyme preparations. The lack of conditions for raw materials, processes and equipment, and the corresponding solutions through experiments have limited the further rapid development of China's enzyme preparation industry.
