The new study found new class of antidiabetic drugs injection
A new study in mice has made breakthrough discovery, in vivo to injection of human fibroblast growth factor (FGF-1) can control the blood glucose level, at the same time to avoid any common side effects of treatment.
Scientists to the mice injected with 0.5mg/kg a group of 12 genetic easily fat orprone to diabetes FGF-1, accident found it to have insulin sensitizing effect, which can regulate blood glucose level.
Gene co-author, USA Salk Institute for biological studies, MichaelDownesexpression of the laboratory said, "this discovery shocked the diabetes researchfield, is a novel finding."
In the whole FGF protein family, only FGF-1 has the unique function of reducingblood sugar. In addition, the effect seems to be associated with the FGF-1 mitogenic activity independent, common side effects and this protein will not cause other antidiabetic therapy in the treatment of diabetes, such ashypoglycemia and weight gain.
At present, the member has confirmed the fibroblast growth factor family has about 23, FGF-1 is just one of them. Most of them are non circulating proteins, including FGF-1, it's like molecular Velcro (Velcro), the surface adhesion in fat cells, has a half-life of less than 5 minutes.
