Watts announced the acquisition of REIMS technology, to strengthen Health Science

Watts (NYSE: WAT) today announced the acquisition of MediMass's Rapid Evaporation Ionization Mass Spectrometry (REIMS) technology. REIMS technology essentially represents all of MediMass's assets, including patent applications, software, databases and REIMS expertise.
"REIMS technology not only significantly enhances Watts' technological position in the health sciences, but is also expected to achieve cross-domain applications," said Rohit Khanna, vice president of global marketing and informatics at Watts. "The acquisition of this technology and our recent exclusive agreement in clinical applications with Prosolia for desorption electrjospray ionization (DESI) technology are important steps for our rapid promotion of the health science business, both of which have a milestone strategic significance, we expect mass spectrometry to take this impact on the health sciences. "
REIMS technology help achieve "Intelligent Knife" or "iKnife", and " Intelligent Knife" or "iKnife" is still in the conceptual development stage, is expected to be used in the real-time diagnosis of surgery. Watts is actively exploring the applicability of this application to all applicable regulatory requirements. To date, such equipment has not yet been certified for clinical application.
The origins of Watts and REIMS dates back to the three-year’s collaboration of Watts, MediMass, and the London Imperial College of Technology to jointly develop REIMS technology. This collaboration aims to promote the application and development of REIMS technology in the field of health science.
REIMS is an ionization technology that can be used as an ion source for direct injection analysis of mass spectrometry. At present, REIMS technology has been able to help users in practical applications (such as food safety, microbiology and clinical diagnostic applications) to achieve atmospheric pressure open ionization sampling.
The instantaneity of REIMS signal is well suited for the Watts’ time-of-flight mass spectrometer. In the future, REIMS ion source will be commercialized, making universal ion source platform ion source product of Watts more diverse.
